The module covers core areas of cognitive psychology, including perception, attention, learning, memory, thinking, language and cognitive neuropsychology. The emphasis of the module is on the understanding of psychological theories related to areas of cognitive psychology and the research that supports them. Insights from cognitive neuropsychology and brain imaging are introduced where appropriate. The course aims to provide students with a strong knowledge base in cognitive psychology that will be built on at Level 2. In the course of lectures we will be talking about how well we process the information around us, for example, are we really any good at paying attention or understanding what we see? Do we accurately recall events? How do we speak and understand language? What informs our decision and reasoning processes?
